Mettler Toledo traces its origins to two companies: Toledo Scale Company, founded in Ohio in 1901, and Mettler Instruments AG, founded in Switzerland in 1945 by Erhard Mettler. The two merged in 1989 to form Mettler-Toledo International Inc., which has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MTD since 1997. The company's global headquarters are in Greifensee, Switzerland, with executive offices in Columbus, Ohio, and a German subsidiary, Mettler-Toledo GmbH, based in Giessen. For bulk material handling, Mettler Toledo supplies filling, batching, tank, and vehicle weighing systems built around industrial load cells, including tank and hopper scales assembled from multiple load cells that measure a continuous flow of product. Its IND360multiACM weighing indicator monitors individual load cells on multi-cell analog strain gauge scales and reports condition data over EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, OPC UA, EtherCAT, and Modbus TCP, and includes a LoadAdvisor feature that visualizes the center of gravity of a loaded scale. The company's Product Inspection Division, based near Tampa, Florida, combines Hi-Speed Checkweighing, Safeline Metal Detection, and X-ray inspection equipment used downstream of bulk processing lines.
