Review how each ingredient enters storage, how inventory and identity are controlled, how scales are filled and discharged, and how the mixer receives the weighed components. The batch route to the furnace must manage segregation, dust release, spillage and interruptions. Throughput figures from an example plant are not transferable without matching the recipe and operating envelope.

Cullet handling and recycling

Cullet can reduce demand for virgin raw materials and melting energy, but its route needs explicit quality controls. Define source, particle-size range, contamination limits, metal and ceramic removal, moisture, storage and the permitted internal or external cullet ratio. Crushing, screening and conveying equipment must be evaluated against wear, fines and maintenance access. The commercial boundary should state who owns inspection and rejection decisions.

Charging and furnace interfaces

The prepared batch and cullet must reach the charging system at the required rate and condition. Furnace demand, buffer capacity, feed distribution, dust control, heat exposure and access for intervention shape this interface. Buyers should ask which signals pass between the batch house, charging equipment and plant control system, and how loss of a conveyor, scale, mixer or utility is handled without losing recipe traceability.

Automation and modernization

ZIPPE’s official profile includes automation, modernization and plant-check services. For a brownfield project, document the existing controls, field devices, software ownership, network requirements and shutdown windows before defining the upgrade. Migration and commissioning plans should address data conversion, recipe validation, manual fallback, alarm testing and operator training. A modernization claim does not establish compatibility with a specific legacy platform.

How to evaluate a proposal

Provide every shortlisted supplier with the same material envelope, recipe cases, furnace demand, site layout, environmental conditions and acceptance measures. Compare battery limits for civil work, steelwork, utilities, extraction, controls, installation and commissioning. Ask for reference duties that are genuinely comparable, identify assumptions and exclusions, and define testing with representative materials before relying on guaranteed outcomes.
