Product families and construction

Food and sanitary service

For drop-through airlocks, define the receiving line pressure and the acceptable leakage into the upstream hopper. Excess leakage can oppose pocket filling, aerate the bin and destabilize mass flow.

Combustible dust

An NFPA-labelled family name is not a plant-level approval. Explosion isolation depends on the exact certified valve, rotor geometry, clearances, speed, control response and installation. The dust hazard analysis must define the hazard and the required protection function.

Where ATEX or other conformity is required, check the model, category, temperature class, dust group, documentation and permitted operating conditions. Do not transfer conformity from one option to another.

Maintenance and inspection

Rotary-airlock performance drifts as tips, housing, seals and bearings wear. A useful maintenance plan records clearances at defined positions, leakage or pressure behavior, drive load and any evidence of rubbing or product buildup.

Quick-release access can shorten the work, but safe isolation remains non-negotiable. The rotor stores mechanical energy, presents trapping points and may expose hazardous residue. Lockout, pressure release and support of withdrawn parts should be written into the procedure.
