Mobile positioning for a vacuum receiver

Purpose: The Porta-Lift carries a vacuum conveyor vertically and allows one mobile assembly to serve more than one process point.

IEDCO describes a counterweighted base with casters and outriggers. A single compressed-air connection powers the lift, while lift and conveyor controls are integrated in the base.

Mechanical and safety functions

The base has to resist overturning moments at the maximum approved lift position and equipment load. Outriggers increase the support footprint when the unit is operating.

Load case: Check stability with the receiver empty, full and carrying residual material at the highest and most extended approved position. Hose tension and an operator pulling on a connection add horizontal load that a simple static equipment-weight check misses.

IEDCO documents pneumatic clamping modules that hold the lift arm if plant air is lost, plus a separate air reserve for the braking function. That published feature is not a substitute for the current load chart, operating instructions, floor assessment or site lifting risk review.

The permitted travel and lifting states should be obvious. A practical sequence is travel with the mast lowered, position on a verified floor, deploy outriggers, connect the destination, then enable lifting and conveying. Interlocks should prevent motion when a rigid product connection is engaged.

Where the concept fits

A mobile lift can reduce permanent structures where several mixers, hoppers or packaging machines need intermittent charging.

It can also improve cleaning access by moving the conveyor away from the receiving machine.

• Maximum conveyor, product and accessory mass.
• Required lift height, reach and discharge interface.
• Floor levelness, strength, slope and travel path.
• Stable outrigger envelope and exclusion zone.
• Hose, cable and air-line management through the full motion.
• Braking, lowering and recovery behavior after air loss.

Mobility is useful only when reconnection is repeatable. Mechanical alignment, destination confirmation and controls permissives should prevent charging the wrong vessel or operating with an incomplete seal.

Access, cleaning and maintenance

Maintenance access has to cover the receiver filter, discharge valve, mast guides, clamps, casters and pneumatic components. The unit needs a secure isolated state that does not depend on trapped air alone.

For hygienic duties, review exposed horizontal surfaces, hollow members, wheel contamination and how hoses are capped during travel. A mobile machine can spread residue between rooms if the cleaning boundary is vague. Site acceptance should include positioning repeatability, seal integrity, brake response, emergency lowering and a full loaded cycle at every intended destination.
