The range that has to be covered
Gericke states that its inline mixing ranges run from 1 kg/h to more than 100,000 kg/h and cover powders, pellets, granules, flakes, particles and liquid additives. That span is the reason the portfolio is split into families rather than sizes of one machine: a pharmaceutical blend at 1 kg/h and a plastics compounding line at 100,000 kg/h do not share a mixing chamber design.
Batch mixing
The GMS double shaft batch mixers use two horizontally arranged mixing tools that create a fluidized zone, which gives rapid radial and axial distribution inside the batch. The GMS Compact applies the same principle at laboratory scale for recipe development. The GBM single shaft batch mixer covers many standard mixing tasks where the fluidized zone is not required.
Continuous mixing
The GCM continuous mixer and the pharmaceutical continuous blender provide a combination of radial and axial mixing (dispersing) while material flows through the chamber. Continuous mixing removes the batch boundary, which matters when the mixer sits directly upstream of a press, an extruder or a packing line.
Homogeneity with micro ingredients
Gericke names highest homogeneity, even with micro-ingredients, as the defining requirement. Micro ingredients are the hard case: a vitamin premix or a colour additive present at a fraction of a percent has to be distributed evenly without being damaged, and without separating again downstream.
Beyond mixing
The company also names experience with reaction processes such as agglomeration, coating and heat transfer, which are carried out in mixing equipment rather than in a separate unit operation.
