Palamatic Process: Emptying Big Bags of Sensitive Powders with OEB Containment

What this video shows

A Palamatic Process engineer explains the OEB big bag discharge station for toxic, CMR and ultra-fine powders, including the sleeve tie-off that keeps containment through a bag change.

What the footage shows

A Palamatic Process engineer presenting the OEB big bag discharge station and demonstrating the sleeve tie-off and bag change procedure that maintains containment.

Process challenge

Standard bulk bag stations break containment at every bag change, which is unacceptable for toxic, CMR or ultra-fine powders.

Demonstrated solution

A discharge station with a leak-proof OEB connection head and a sleeve tie-off procedure with breakaway clips that keeps containment continuous through batch changes.

Technical overview

Key features

  • •OEB connection head described by the manufacturer as 100 percent leak-proof.
  • •Sleeve tie-off with breakaway clips or cable ties before the empty bag is removed.
  • •Old sleeve removed through a waste bag after the next bag is connected, keeping the material path closed.

Typical applications

  • •Big bags of toxic, CMR or ultra-fine powders in pharmaceutical and fine chemical plants.
  • •Any bulk bag intake where containment must hold during batch and bag changes.

About this video

For toxic, CMR or ultra-fine powders, the question is not whether a bulk bag station collects dust but whether containment ever breaks. Palamatic Process addresses the bag change, the weak point of most stations, and in this video Nicolas Roudault, engineer and production manager at Palamatic Process, walks through the OEB discharge station.

According to the manufacturer, the station provides total and continuous containment with no break even during batch changes, thanks to an OEB connection head that the company describes as 100 percent leak-proof. Once the first big bag is empty, the operator ties off the sleeve with special breakaway clips or cable ties, which seals the empty bag while leaving the residual sleeve on the connection head. The empty bag can then be removed.

After the second big bag is in place, the operator pulls the old sleeve out through a waste bag, so the material path is never open to the room. The video presents the procedure step by step rather than a full production run.
