Food-duty rotary valves sit at an awkward intersection: they must move dry solids, restrict gas leakage and still be opened, cleaned and inspected without creating new contamination risks. Stainless steel helps, but hygienic design is a system of geometry, materials, seals, access and procedure.
How to use this Top 10
Start with the product and cleaning regime. Record allergens, microbiological sensitivity, moisture behavior, allowable residues, cleaning chemicals and whether the valve is cleaned dry, wet, in place or out of place.

Seals, bearings and lubricants

Bearings placed outboard of the endplate are easier to separate from product and cleaning fluid, but the actual arrangement still matters.

Dry cleaning, wet cleaning and validation
Dry-cleaned lines may avoid water because moisture can promote microbial growth or turn powder residue into a stubborn paste. Wet cleaning can provide a stronger removal method but introduces drainage, drying and corrosion questions. The valve design has to support the chosen regime.
